Centauri Health Solutions Selected as Honorable Mention Winner in Health Category of Fast Company’s 2021 World Changing Ideas Awards
Centauri’s AI-enhanced prediction model, which better identifies people with disabilities in a Medicaid population, is among the products, concepts, companies, policies, and designs that are pursuing innovation for the good of society and the planet.
Scottsdale, Ariz. (May 4, 2021) — The winners of Fast Company’s 2021 World Changing Ideas Awards were announced today, honoring the businesses, policies, projects, and concepts that are actively engaged and deeply committed to pursuing innovation when it comes to solving health and climate crises, social injustice, or economic inequality.
Centauri Health Solutions, an innovative provider of healthcare technology and services, was selected as an Honorable Mention winner in the Health category, honoring medical innovations that save lives, extend longevity, or increase access to care.
Centauri’s Artificial Intelligence-enhanced data prediction model was recognized for its proven ability to more effectively identify Medicaid individuals who are qualified for and in need of Social Security disability (SSI/SSDI) assistance, but who are not yet receiving such support. Centauri’s modeling formula, if replicated across all U.S. government assistance programs, could drastically increase the number of eligible individuals accessing life-saving medical care and benefits nationwide.
Centauri applied advanced machine learning techniques to uniquely combine clinical, demographic, and operational data sources to inform the newest modelling. Centauri’s team of data scientists and analysts combined hundreds of clinical data elements and proprietary classifications of clinical conditions into meaningful predictive patterns, adding algorithms and models around patient demographics and regulatory agency geography and decision patterns.
Now in its fifth year, the World Changing Ideas Awards showcase 33 winners, more than 400 finalists, and more than 800 honorable mentions—with Health and Wellness, AI & Data among the most popular categories.
A panel of eminent Fast Company editors and reporters selected winners and finalists from a pool of more than 4,000 entries across transportation, education, food, politics, technology, and more. In addition to Health, new categories added this year include Pandemic Response, Urban Design, and Architecture. The 2021 awards feature entries from across the globe, from Brazil to Denmark to Vietnam.
“As an industry leader in government eligibility and enrollment programs, Centauri was uniquely qualified to determine the most relevant characteristics for enhanced predictive modeling,” said Michelle Miller, Centauri’s Chief Technology Officer and lead strategist of the initiative “Our formula has the potential to revolutionize the health care industry. Finding these members who are clearly in need, but who are lost within the healthcare system, and then streamlining the application process to government agencies allows the true intent of this type of government sponsored program to be realized. We are simplifying the system while providing life-enhancing income and lifesaving care to those in our communities who need it most.”
Showcasing some of the world’s most inventive entrepreneurs and companies tackling exigent global challenges, Fast Company’s Summer 2021 issue (on newsstands May 10) highlights, among others, a lifesaving bassinet; the world’s largest carbon sink, thanks to carbon-eating concrete; 3D-printed schools; an at-home COVID-19 testing kit; a mobile voting app; and the world’s cleanest milk.
“There is no question our society and planet are facing deeply troubling times. So, it’s important to recognize organizations that are using their ingenuity, impact, design, scalability, and passion to solve these problems,” says Stephanie Mehta, editor-in-chief of Fast Company. “Our journalists, under the leadership of senior editor Morgan Clendaniel, have discovered some of the most groundbreaking projects that have launched since the start of 2020.”
